Image size limits for each platform
The maximum file size, formats and recommended dimensions for ad images on Google, Meta, TikTok, Microsoft Advertising and LinkedIn.
Snifferdog accepts any image, but each ad platform has its own limits. A file that's too big, or the wrong format, can be blocked when your campaign is sent to the platform. Here are the limits for image ads on each platform.
The short version
Save your images as JPG, under 5 MB, and at least 1200 pixels on the shortest side for square and landscape images. That works for Google, Meta and LinkedIn. TikTok and Microsoft Advertising have their own rules, so see below.
Google Ads
- Maximum file size: 5,120 KB (5 MB)
- Formats: JPG and PNG. Performance Max also accepts GIF.
- Recommended sizes: 1200 × 628 (landscape), 1200 × 1200 (square), 960 × 1200 (portrait)
- Minimum sizes: 600 × 314 (landscape), 300 × 300 (square), 480 × 600 (portrait)
Meta (Facebook and Instagram)
- Maximum file size: 30 MB
- Formats: JPG and PNG
- Recommended sizes: 1440 × 1440 (square), 1440 × 1800 (portrait)
- Minimum width: 600 pixels
TikTok
- Carousel images: TikTok suggests a file size of 100 KB or less per image, in JPG or PNG. Sizes: 1200 × 628 (landscape), 640 × 640 (square) or 720 × 1280 (vertical). TikTok recommends vertical images.
- TikTok Ad Network (ads in partner apps): JPG or PNG up to 100 MB, at the same sizes.
TikTok is mainly a video platform. Images only appear in some formats, and work best as a set of vertical images in a carousel.
Microsoft Advertising
- Maximum file size: Microsoft doesn't publish a simple limit for ad images, so keep files as small as you can without losing quality.
- Formats: JPG, PNG and GIF (not animated). PNG images are converted to JPG, so upload a JPG if you want control over quality.
- Maximum size: 2592 pixels wide and 2048 pixels high
- Minimum size: 703 × 368 for landscape (1.91:1) images
- Maximum file size: 5 MB
- Formats: JPG, PNG and GIF
- Recommended sizes: 1200 × 628 (landscape), 1200 × 1200 (square), 720 × 900 (vertical, mobile only)
If your image is too large
- Save it as a JPG rather than a PNG. Photos are usually much smaller as JPGs.
- Reduce the dimensions. Anything beyond about 2000 pixels wide adds file size without making your ad look better.
- Use a free image compressor, then check the result still looks sharp.
Platforms change their limits from time to time. We last checked these on 12 October 2026.
