Why was my ad rejected?

The most common reasons ads are rejected by Google, Meta, TikTok and Microsoft, and how to fix them.

Every platform reviews ads against its advertising policies. If an ad breaks a rule, it's rejected (sometimes called "disapproved") and won't run.

Common reasons

  • Restricted products: alcohol, gambling, financial services, health products and more have extra rules or need certification.
  • Personal attributes: wording that implies you know something about the viewer, such as "Struggling with debt?"
  • Misleading claims: unrealistic promises, or before-and-after images.
  • Too much text or poor quality: blurry images, excessive capitals or symbols.
  • Landing page problems: broken links, slow pages, or a page that doesn't match the ad.

What to do

  1. Check the rejection reason in the platform's ads manager.
  2. Fix the ad, or the landing page.
  3. Resubmit, or appeal if you think the decision was wrong.
Read the policies: Google Ads policies, Meta Advertising Standards, and the advertising policies in the TikTok and Microsoft Advertising help centres.
