Why we limit how many requests you can make

Ad platforms cap how often apps like Snifferdog can contact them. Here's why we space out requests, and what it means for you.

If you make a lot of changes or press Sync now several times in a short space of time, Snifferdog may ask you to wait a moment before trying again. This page explains why.

How Snifferdog talks to the platforms

Every time you launch a campaign, pause it, change a budget or sync your figures, Snifferdog sends a request to Google, Meta, TikTok or Microsoft Advertising through their official connections (APIs).

Each platform limits how many requests an app can send in a given period. These limits protect the platforms' systems, and they apply to Snifferdog as a whole as well as to individual ad accounts.

What happens if those limits are reached

If an app sends too many requests too quickly, the platform slows it down or temporarily blocks it. While that lasts, requests fail, and that could affect anyone using Snifferdog: launches, pauses, budget changes and syncs could all stop working until the block lifts.

Platforms can also take repeated overuse into account when deciding how much access an app is allowed in future.

Why we space out requests

To avoid this, Snifferdog keeps track of how many requests are being made and spaces them out. Occasionally that means asking you to wait briefly. It's a small inconvenience that keeps campaigns running smoothly for you and everyone else.

What you might notice

  • A message asking you to wait before trying again.
  • Sync now not being available again straight after you've used it.
  • A short delay before a change is confirmed.

How to avoid it

  1. Batch your changes. In Live Edit Mode, make all your edits, check them, then publish them together.
  2. Don't press Sync now repeatedly. Figures only update once a day, so syncing again won't bring in anything newer. See How syncing works.
  3. Wait, then try once. If you're asked to wait, give it a few minutes before trying again.

This is good practice anyway: frequent small changes to a live campaign tend to unsettle its learning.

If you keep seeing the message after waiting, or a change doesn't seem to have gone through, let us know.
